I'm an ex-AIB employee. I would like to defend the 'staff business'/Staff bank unit as it always acted in the interests of its staff. Yes credit was easily available but you had to apply for it to get it! It wasnt forced upon us! Cant please everyone! They'd be complaining if they werent accepted for a loan/mortgage. And the bank would have been very reluctant to reject an application from it's own staff, particulartly if was deemed a 'key employee' like a trader or a senior manager.

It's easy to criticise them now in retrospect but I have a loan from them, they always dealt with me very professionally and fairly, they explained how much the monthy repayments would be over what term and it was up to me to accept that. So fair play! They treated their staff well, we got paid well and we got sizable bonuses. It's only begrudgers who have an issue with that now. So get a live! I'm due a bonus from AIB from 2008 which has been blocked due to sensationalist journalism and interfeering public.
